This is my chosen concept and final design for the Falmouth graphic design promotion brief.
It is an A0 sized poster which unfolds to reveal the huge butterfly. The process of making the poster became a big fun collaborative project, each word was woodblock printed and the process was filmed and then put onto youtube.
The concept was based on the idea that the graphic design course and the experience as a student at Falmouth can not be summarised in just one word it is everything about it which makes you evolve (into a butterfly). It is primarily about the journey from the experiences the course gives you.

creativity is simply seeing things differently

This is aimed to be sent to colleges to promote studying graphic design at falmouth, the glasses on the strip will have eye holes cut through so a designer can look through and see things in a variety of different perspectives.

My mum's new cafe

My mum will be soon opening a new cafe in shoreham.
The cafe is part of taramont studios which holds studio space for artists, photographer, illustrators and designers to sell their work.

This has been a great chance for me to design some more logo and signs for people working in the units.
This is the first sign i have designed the logo links in with the existing Nice Slice logo because my mum had already built a reputation making tasty wedding and birthday cakes.

Revival

A tribute the old and the forgotten.
The main aim of this box is to encourage people to recycle old clothes, buy unwanted items from charity shops then to bring the tired clothes to life with the aid of modern craft.

The box contains 9 double sided postcards which include an illustration on one side and instruction on the others. The kit also comes with stencils, needles and thread.

Handmade authenticity
My final idea is inspired by art and fashion illustration.

Instead of observing a painting asa full image i would focus on the small details which is proof that it is handmade such as brush strokes, splatters of paint and smudges.
I was also inspired by jackson pollock and how the outcomes of his paintings are undetermined I then compared this observation to creativity of handmaking clothes.

I wanted to point out that mistakes can add character and show your own personality creatively.
I would apply this idea to the illustrative style, i would create a basic structure and layout but allow enough freedom to be unplanned.

I am currently making a book on craft and recyled fashion, Work is in slow progress, My main aims and ideas have fizzled out slightly because the illustration is taking up the space for the idea and most of my time.

Although i am happy with this being a handmade creative project and is appropriate to the books intentions.

This is just a glimpse of the style

This illustration will be put with instructions which show how an old mens shirt can be made into a skirt.

I have had many thoughts on names but the strongest so far seem to be Ressurect and Revival...hmmm.

Rise above the storm and you'll find sunshine

This project has been my favourite so far.
The brief was to design packaging for St Johns Wort to be used as an anti depressent because science shows it can be as effective as prozac.
I thought the most effective and natural solution would be to have the st johns wort contained in a drink sachet which would just needed to be mixed with hot water, I then invented a range of drinks with fruitfull flavours.
The packaging is designed to reflect the hope of happiness.
The rainbow has many connotations of hope such as gold at the end of the rainbow therefore i played with this idea.

Sweet Sweet Lies

This is a cd cover design I have recently been working on for a brighton band Sweet Sweet Lies.
My aims were to create a brand style which reflected the eccentricity of the band with baroque/rococo ornaments, a distorted circus/sideshow font and the stencil which follows the stories told in the music lyrics.
A mock up design has been sent to the printers, i am curious to see how they will turn out.
The designs are still unfinished though.
I am undesecisive about the colour though as i originally wanted the design to be red but had difficulties making the text stand out.
